💚 These days, i find myself giving up to the universe and thinking, “even if I cannot see it right now, this is happening for a reason and the universe always provides.” It feels abrasive to give trust to that but a life learned and lived says so. 💚 We created a GoFundMe so you can hear our collective story and gain access to info about our final open studios for June Downtown Art Walk, how to participate in raffles from each artist, if you’re a vendor and want to come set up or a food truck we would love to have you, and appreciate all your support! 💚 A like, a share, words of encouragement and a dollar dollar bill ya’ll goes a long way. 💚 I honor the space we’ve held and open to the places we’ll go! 💚 click the link below to go to the GoFundMe 💚 elena_ohlander - Listen on YouTube, Spotify - Linktree |
Support the relocation efforts for the Jax Artist Studio at ART WALK!
This is the last artwalk for the Monroe Jax Art Studio Artists so don't miss it. There will be vendors, food trucks, and art raffles, food and drink! You will find us in the signet building at 800 W Monroe St, Jacksonville, Fl 32202. Please contact us at 904-233-9252 from 12 - 5 pm Mon-Sat with questions about the event. Message from Elena Ohlander: @Elena_Ohlander 💚@jaxartstudios at Monroe St and @tacjax at Union St have been a place of refuge, an idea incubator, a gathering of community, a place to create, deconstruct, and build anew. 💚My heart sank when I got the email that our lease is up, we have 30 days to vacate and not a prospect in sight to plant roots once again. Artists included but not limited to: My art bestie and studio mate @cooli_ras_art @jwalkertheartist @smoothgator24 @queen_elm60 @nekoesfineart @chinamark @moonshadow76 @eli_douglas_photography @yogiroam @all_ghoul_arts @lynn_syrcle @mabsmakesstuff @angiemagz @tanzanightvisualartist @johnypeligroart @jmoneas |

On Tuesday May 16th, nineteen local artists renting studio spaces at 800 W. Monroe Street were given their 30 Day Notice to Vacate. This came with no warning or at no fault of the artists themselves. We have until June 16th to find new studio spaces to continue working. Many of us depend on our studio spaces to make a living. So we’re turning to our community for help. We’re trying to raise $25,000 for a deposit and expenses towards relocation.

With the rising costs of renting retail and industrial spaces across the city, local small artists and our creative businesses struggle to compete with out-of-town hedge funds and large conglomerates. A strong deposit would help us secure a long-term space. This would allow us to continue renting affordable studio spaces for working class Duval artists.
If the $25,000 goal isn’t met, or property unable to be secured at this time, any raised money will be divided equally among the Jax Art Studio artists to help them with the costs of this unexpected move. Thank you in advance for all of your love, time, and support!
From the Art Center Cooperative, Inc:
This will be a privately run studio, not under the Art Center Cooperative, Inc umbrella.
The Art Center Cooperative, Inc has put a deposit on space for studios, but it has to be upgraded before it is ready. The artists of Monroe need immediate studio space and want to rent their own property with a longer lease. Ever since the eviction from Union Street Terminal Warehouse because of development, the Art Center has struggled to find studio space for all of our artists and the Union studio artists as well. Unfortunately, our interim solution at Monroe has been terminated by the landlord. We originally had a plan for a large facility in liaison with a large company in Jacksonville.
Unfortunately, the costs associated with developing the space became too substantial for the development to happen. Since the cancelation of this project, we found our new location on Market and the landlords are bringing the property up to code. We were devastated by this turn of events and hope you will help the artists find a new home.
There is such a need for affordable creative spaces in this city. If you love art, believe in community, or are tired of the little guy getting beat up. Donate.
